The aviation sector accounts for over <\/span>4% of anthropogenic CO\u2082 emissions<\/span><\/a>, and remains one of the sectors with the fastest-growing greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, air travel remains strongly correlated with income level: just 1% of the world\u2019s population accounts for more than 50% of the CO2 emissions from commercial aviation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n

When the Global Solidarity Levies Task Force was launched at COP28 by France, Kenya and Barbados, it was tasked with examining options for international levies on carbon-intensive and\/ or undertaxed sectors like aviation.<\/p>\n
